Theodore de Bry's 1596 circular map was one of the popular maps showing North and South America at the close of the sixteenth century. The Saint Lawrence River is shown, but imagination rather than exploration has provided most of the information about North America. Portraits of the great explorers of the New World - Columbus, Magellan, Pizarro and Vespucci - surround this Dutch map.
